cold air intake. Good? bad? what are u running
I dont really trust those lab tests though. K&N has built a reputation for years. If there product was as bad as these lab tests claim I feel their rep would have suffered alot because of it. With that being said. Better air flow you probably run the risk of sucking in more. Its just a given. But you reduce the flow you suffer proformance. I also wonder who pays for these independent tests. There are always going to be tests saying this is better then that.

I have a Spectre air filter I got for like 20 bucks at Kragen hooked up to some random Junkyard parts. I got the Throttle Body adapter from a Jeep Grand Cherokee and the Flex Pipe from some random German Import. Works out pretty well when it comes to ease to maintain and appearance.
Didn't notice much difference between when I went from stock to custom Ram Air with K&N. Din't notice much going to Round Air Filter either or even to the Custom setup again with Spectre Cone Filter...
Best I've noticed so far was the Ram Air Setup but that's long gone now till I dump about 500-1000 on a clean professional setup.

just like there are studies saying just adding a cold air intake can increase up to like 30 hp. Thats not happening but there are studies. Or one company has an independent study that says their prodict works 100x better then their rivals. Studies can be worked at times to the outcome you want. Now if study after study after study then I believe it. But just a couple studies then I'm calling bs. There are workout suppliments that say taking there product can increase strength 300% well if thats the case then I should look juiced out after a couple months. You cant always believe studies because soemone is usually paying for that study that has a certain interest

On the other hand marketting pitches often will purposefully eliminate the important details of the testing methodologies used to achieve the claimed results. I challenge you to link details to a single study making these outrageous claims which stands up to logical scrutiny.
Obviously you are entitled to draw your conclusions based on whatever you feel like. I prefer pure objectivity where possible. I see no glaring problems with the linked study. Perhaps I'm missing something?

of course studies can and will be manipulated by unscrupulous individuals in order to bias results. This is why a real scientist will gladly reveal their methods for peer review so others may recreate the results if there is any question. The study linked in this thread seems to disclose all the important details as far as i know. Are you seeing something suspicious there i missed? Please point out where you think this study is flawed.

I know that I ran a K&N drop in in my jeep air box for sometime and the air box was extremly clean. Mt stock air box I took off my ram with a cheap paper filter was dirty. But if you increase the air flow your alwasy going to increase the chance of fine dust if u increase the air flow. whether its AEM, K&N, and so on.
I installed my spectre the other nite and I like the increase in the sound I can hear of it sucking in air when I get on the gas. Not sure being in the location of the stock box makes it a huge up grade but a high flowing filter and a huge one it that is probably and improvement. I may looking into running a line down towards the bottom of the grill or something. I will post a pic of it later on
