Default 4wd shift shoes on fork anybody ever?

Ok its a freaking snow storm and my 4wd of course is not working correctly. looks like the little plastic shoes on the shift actuator fork are gone. anybody have any ideas on what i can use in a pinch to replace. looks like the shift fork is riding over the collar without those shoes. i was thinking a piece of small hole with a zip tie on it. any other ideas

You could check online or call the local auto stores to see if they have it in stock, but thats if you can get there

well since we dont know what year or model truck you have we dont know how to help you. plus the only info you gave is the 4wd shift fork. there are 2 forks, one in the t-case and one in the front axle for the cad unit.

i dont have 4x4 period. my front drive shaft is not in due to a bad pinion yoke.

heres a simple solution, go to your local city barn and put 600-700 pounds of sand/salt mix in the bed of your truck. thats what i did and ill be plowing in 2wd all day tomorrow!

6-12" of the fluffy white stuff. October 29th, ONLY in NEW ENGLAND!

+1 on the sand. You'll just have to deal with it. And new shoes won't help anyway. If they are "gone" (as in they are not there) the fork itself is worn and needs replace. It would still work without the shoes if the fork was not totaled.

I have a 96 1500 I'm talking about the shift fork on the front axle. Looking for a quick fix in a pinch. The fork must be worn it rides over the collar. I have the fork locked in one position with a bolt welded in there so its always in 4wd. Cause I have a vacuum leak. But the collar seems to be sliding out. Do you think my piece of hose idea on each side of fork with a zip tie holding it on will work

i have about 1k# of sand/salt mix up against my tailgate. plus the 600+# 8" plow in the front, is more than enough weight to plow in 2wd, let alone drive in 2wd on the roads. just do as i said for a simple fix, dont be stupid and go driving like an idiot and you will be just fine...

Weld the collar in place then. LOL Or maybe slide it into position and use 2 pieces of hose of the right length and diameter on each side of the collar.

I would try your hose idea and if that dosent work maybe try wraping the ends of the fork with duct tape so that it will be tight against the colar.

you should be able to cobble up something.

see if you can manually slide the collar toward the drivers side to engage it, then wrap something around the passenger side axle half to lock the collar into place. maybe a big plastic collar and some zip-ties.

then leave the cad off and just bolt a cover plate over the cad opening. that will keep the fork out of the way.
