around $600ish for the gears themselves, plus whatever your friend would charge... I'm gonna get reamed from saying 600, but that's general price that I've seen looking around

4.56 and 315's here. Great combo, though I often wish I had 4.88's instead.

I've got 1800 in gears, install kits, wheel bearings in the back and seals all the way around. I love my 35's and 4.88's but I'm going to 37's in February.

I've upgraded gears twice, once from stock 3.55 to 4.10, then from 4.10 to 4.56. Both times it ran about $1800 out the door (parts, labor, tax, shop fees, etc...). I used Yukon gears installed from an experienced offroad specialty shop in town that I trust.

The first one (3.55-4.10) included the install of an Auburn LSD at the same time, so that added about $400 in parts, and maybe a tiny bit to labor cost. It did not include a new carrier though because I went with a thick gear, so that saved a little money.

The second time (4.10-4.56) included the removal of a broken LSD and install of a new Auburn LSD (so definetly some added labor cost there, no new parts cost though), and I had to go with a new carrier with the 4.56's, so that was added parts cost.

You can do it yourself of course, but it definetly takes some know-how, and the result of getting it wrong will typically cost you more then just paying to have a professional do it right the first time.

I think 315's (35's) are the right size for these trucks proportionally. They just seem to fit it just right.
