Depends on your definition of off road. I find that to be a very subjective term.

I'd say the "average off roader" is a weekend warrior who drives two tracks at sane speeds and 3 rated trails or less with some mud. For that you can use the R/C kit.
If you really believe your off roading involves (or you even think it will) more than that, you might want to save your cash for something better. Or set an equal amount of money aside for upgrades as you descover deficiencies.
I can assure you that the shocks R/C provides are crap...ask me how I know!

I thought lift blocks were not good if you plan on going offroad they are just for looks.

Dsertdog that I'd exactly what I want to do.

Does a 5" lift throw off the alignment? If so I'm OK with getting an alignment but can it be aligned properly?

Most of them will come with a track bar drop down bracket, and a dropped pitman arm. (the one on the steering box.) That should keep things close to the stock geometry, but, doing an alignment afterwards is highly recommended.

The kit I received had R/C's standard gas shocks which were not Bilstiens. If a Bilstien upgrade is availible for the lit that would be a better choice.

In addition to the drop pitman arm and T-bar bracket you should get longer control arms and brop brackets or longer sway bar links...all that should be in the kit. This will provide for centering and paralleling the steering, sway bar, and track bar. These components assure proper caster, sway bar function, and reduce bump steer.

I like a bit more lift than tire myself in most cases...so I can have lots of flex.

Exclamation Tire Size Help Please...

Hello all,
I just got a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 QC 4x4 off-road with the 5.9
It had a knock in the motor so I am re-building it. (My father owns a Mechanic/Towing Shop) I growed up being a Chevy man, and Camaro's at that. But being a father of 3 and needing a truck all the time I purchaced this from my dad, he got it in on trade. First of all I am so thankful to have found this forum. I have read and read all of the stickys and other threads. I am doing the motor rebuild and plenum fix along with the kegger mod. But my question here is that the truck currently has factory 16" rims on it and 31.5 tires, they scrub a little when turning. ( I have yet to drive the truck on the road due to the engine knock). However the build sheet I got back from Chrysler (thanks to this forum) says the truck came with LT265/70R17E size tires and rims. If it now has the stock looking 16" chrysler rims on it ( somebody must have changed it in the past) what size tires do I need to get in 16" to make the speedo and clearence issues be correct? It has the 4.10 gears in it that I verifed personally if that helps.
Also here is the build sheet , please forgive the long first post....
