Default Ignition FD fuse keeps blowing

Hi,

I have a 1998 Dodge 1500 with the 5.2 engine.

Fuse #11-Ignition FD in the interior fuse panel keeps blowing everytime I start the truck.

I have unhooked everything I could think of that is connected to that circuit including the overhead Compass/Temp Gauge and review mirror dimmer and the fuse keeps blowing. I have also visually checked all wiring and everything looks ok.

With the fuse blown it is also triggering trouble codes

P0443 , P0545, P1495

I'm at a loss as to what to do next....has anybody else had this problem?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thank You

Looks like fuse 11 is just for the auto dimming mirror, and the overhead console.... From there, it gets way weird..... Grab the 01 service manual from the faq section here, it has wiring diagrams and such like that should help ya figger out what's goin' on.

Thanks for the reply HeyYou
The fuse panel cover says fuse #11 is Ignition FD...whatever that is?
The auto dimming mirror, and the overhead console are run off of it and also the A/C and a couple other things I can't remember off the top of my head. I have been over everything disconnecting them all checking wiring and just can't figure it out. I'll go over the diagram again to see if I have missed something...

This is driving me insane...

I appreciate the help
Thank you

Went back over the wiring diagrams and can't see anything I missed on them...
I'm at a complete loss.

Thank you

Have a look at the connectors at the back of the junction block then, might be a short back there. Something else to consider would be the back of the headlight switch, maybe.... do the displays dim with the panel lights?

I'll pull out the fusebox and see if I might have missed anything the first go around. I'll check the headlight switch as well. The headlights work as normal as well as the interior/cargo lights and the dash lights and radio dim properly as well.

I'll let you know what I find or don't find.

Thank you for the help I really appreciate it.

I thought you were going to let us know what you found out?

I have the same problem with the same truck(1998 Dodge 1500 with the 5.2 engine.) Fuse #11 ignition FD blows when you turn on the ignition.
With the fuse blown it is also triggering trouble codes

P0443 , P0545

Anyone come across a fix in the last 3 years?

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Craig

This isn't the kind of fault that's going to have the same cause in every or even most trucks that experience it. Grab the factory service manual from the FAQ/DIY section of the forum, and see page 8W-12-10. There are nine circuits branched off of that fused feed.

If you can acquire the appropriate pin removal tool, the easiest way to start troubleshooting would be to remove, one at a time, pin 14 from connector C3, and pins 5, 6, and 8 from connector C4. The one that leaves you with an intact fuse after power on is the branch with the failed circuit in it. If you're lucky it won't be the IEM/CTM circuit.

Default #11 ignition fd fuse keeps blowing on my 98 dodge ram 1500

hi, i have a problem with my 98 dodge ram 1500 5.2l 5speed stick. fuse 11 (ignition fd) keeps on blowing. i've unplugged the ctm, evap purge solenoid, and a/c clutch coil, but it still blows the #11 fuse when i drive down the road. any help would be appreciated!

Ps. i don't have power windows, power door lock, day/night mirror, or overhead console. really it's just a regular old pickup truck with 2 full and 2 half doors.

You have a short somewhere. Grab the manual for your truck from here. Wiring diagrams are in section 8W.
