LED conversion
Okay folks, I have a notion to use as many LED bulbs as possible in my Ram. I have tried using LED bulbs for signal and tail lights in a Bonneville I used to own, but the PCM does not recognize the low voltage draw of the LED's, you have to use aluminum sheathed resistors & a special blinker module to make them work, and not that greatly I might add. I went back to incandesants in that car then I got rid of it. I am curious if any of you have done the LED signal & tail lights in LED and I want to know if any of you encountered a need for special extras like the resistors and special blinker etc that I did with my Bonneville. I am wanting to upgrade to LED tail assemblies but I really want to know how much of a pain it will be up front. Your thoughts folks?
I bought LED tail light bulbs for my euro taillights and what happened was my turn signal was extremely fast because of the low voltage LED's. I just bought a LED friendly Relay for like 12 dollars at advanced auto parts.
If you do the rear lights and the front signals you will have problems. Your blinkers wont function at all. I had to put resistors on the front and back lights to run all LEDs. Only drawback is they blink fast, like your normal signals would blink when you had a bulb out, but everything blinking correctly. I just haven't researched enough to install a blinker "fix"
i bought led lights on ebay for 119.00 dollars.
they have releys built in place i know this ain't what your looking for but its a cool easy and a somewhat cheap upgrade you can do that adds style and a safety factor to the rear of your ram

Is the LED friendly relay just one that you put in place of the original turn signal relay in the engine bay?

In my area, I have never been busted for running LED signals or brake lights, cops here only care that they work correctly. I will eventually to the ready made LED rear fixtures from ebay as mentioned above. I want the from signals to be LED, but I guess I will have to use the resistors. I have some still new in the bag I got on ebay last year for my old car. I know the lights in my old bonneville are sort of connected to the computer, so even with resisters & the special blinker unit they just did not work, but the interior lights were great. Thanks for all the input guys! Now I have some plans on exactly what to do.
when i was in search and rescue with my local sheriff department. i did bring up that question to a traffic deputy. cause there are some lights that don't have a dot number. but as long as you have a red reflector and there not blacked out you won't have any problems. but on some of them that are all clear and you need a red light bulb those of ones that you can get fined for
but that here in my area of washington so i'm it may be different with you aera
also V-leds.com is a good place to check out for led light bulbs there super bright i have a set in my front blinkers they blink amber and white and i have them in my dome lights there they brightest leds i've ever had or seen
