ok so my original pcm stopped working bought a new one got it in today my mechanic had the truck all drove it around today brang it back and they new one did the same as the old stopped working. what could be causing this.. hes sending it back getting a new one and he said if the new new one messes up then we need to replace the performance one in the truck as well. said theres 2 one is the pcm ecu or whatever and we also have one that send signals to the pcm to adjust and etc. idk just want my truck back.. when the truck gets hot it will sit at idle then jump up to 1k-1500 rpms then bog down till it finally shuts off. when that happens he said it stops sending fuel to my injectors. replaced tps. and iac. and new battery terminals .

 

I wonder if the 'other one' he is talking about is the central timer module? I don't think the 97's had that though.... (I am not able to come up with it in the 96 manual at any rate.)

If you smoke the next PCM as well, its time to start checking the harness, and associated PCM inputs, to see if you can find a problem..... That just isn't going to be any fun at all.
