Way too much work for no benefit. Megasquirt 2 would end up being cheaper and is infinitely tunable.

Honestly I get almost as good mileage with my '72, non overdrive, with 39's as i do with my efi overdriven '95 haha. But my 318 runs like a top, and my 360 needs a bit more work and tuning.

why do people always bring up gauges when someone talks about swapping to carb? i bet most of the gauges are hooked up separate from the computer anyway. i think the only one that may be tricky is the speedo. hooking up an old style voltage regulator is simple. i think it would probably cost you at least $1000 to convert to carb. the intake that you would need would probably cost you at least $300 plus the carb itself $300 and depending on what type of ignition system you go with it could cost $100-200, charging system would cost you about $50 plus whatever a fuel regulator goes for. there may be outher parts i am missing but i can not think of them right now. aren't the transmissions electrically controlled from about 96 and on?

As I can read gauges with MTG 2500 connected to OBD port, I am thinking most of them do go through PCM. Not sure, but i can read fuel level, engine and tranny temp, intake air, etc......

i am also betting your truck has 2 of most of the sending unit. need be you leave the computer there and add the stuff you need to run the carb. for a whole week i ran a electric speedo in my 81. it was super simple to hook up and for the longest time i thought i need the computer to have a electric speedo.

Looking at the schematics... it appears on the 96-97 trucks, only the tach is driven by the PCM. interesting.
