Default Transmission wont shift from 1st to 2nd

My transmission will shift perfectly fine when driving when in drive but it does nothing when i use the gear shifter to go from 1st to 2nd it just stays in first. Its not a big deal but i would like to know what the problem could be.

Maybe the linkage is not adjusted correctly. What happens when you start off in 1st and move the shifter to D ?

I'm thinking adjustment as well. Especially if it functions normally otherwise. Check as zman suggested and see what happens. If that works, adjust shifter linkage underneath.

It probably is just the linkage. would a lift kit affect this? I will check more tomorrow if im in second and i drop it into first if the rpms change.

Lift kit could possibly alter this. Body lift?
