dude...that sounds a bit stinky to me. Course he'd say that. Nonetheless, if you got money I guess no big deal, otherwise I'd at least start with where he said he took it for maintenance. Check the dealers, shops, trans shops, etc. All be license plate number. That would be the minimum, if it were me, to try and vet his statement.

to me it sounds like it is your fault the engine blew. 6000rpm? i don't think a stock truck engine was designed to rev that high which is why there is usually a rev limiter installed. if the trans was rebuild 40k ago i would guess there may not be anything wrong with it but it may need to be adjusted.

It should be able to survive a trip up there once, if it isn't for very long...... Should..... not necessarily "will".....

It is assumed that the rebuild is a true statement. If there were underlying issues...I'd be skeptical of every statement made, UNLESS there were receipts to substantiate.

I'm trying to figure out what (If any) the logic behind this is... was your informant under any sort of external influence?

i think with all the weak link there are in the magnum engines they would not survive much past 5200 rpm unless it was built to do so.

How did it Rev so high? If you feel the tranny slip isn't your first natural response to take your foot off the gas and say wtf was that? Sounds like he kept the throttle pegged because he said it revved to 6k before it shifted. Not trying to be an *** but it sounds like operator error to me

The Magnum bottom end will take 6k no problem, assuming there isn't some problem lurking in the dark. Valvetrain is another story.
