Default 2wd steering upgrade?

this is a steering conversion I made to my truck. can't post step by step because it was 9 months ago. but here are some pics from the end result. I used a 2002 2wd rack & pinion and tie rods. made a suport for the steering shaft with a bearing, found in many agricultural implements. made a bracket from 2 pieces of 1/2 x 3inches flat steel to atach the r&p to the cross member, and used on the return line hose the conector for the 3rd gen.http://s1142.photobucket.com/albums/...-28-03_368.jpg http://s1142.photobucket.com/albums/...56.jpg5119.jpg

Mine says I have Power Rack and Pinion steering.... but, it doesn't look anything like that.

Nice. Bet it drives MUCH nicer.

the steering shaft has an extra u-joint because the stock one had to be cut from the gear box end, and attached another from a old celebrity (only one available ), just needed to enlarge the hole with a burr. and the other pic is how the the bracket attaches to the framehttp://s1142.photobucket.com/albums/n617/generalheh/?action=view&current=2011-11-10_16-55-20_794.jpg http://s1142.photobucket.com/albums/...-56-01_888.jpg

yes it drives a lot better, safe? 9monts and lots of miles, sometimes doing 60-70mph in unpaved roads and full of holes, here is the lost link.http://s1142.photobucket.com/albums/...-55-20_794.jpg

That looks pretty slick. Is there enough clearance between stabilizer and rack? Looks pretty close but could be the angel photo was taken. Wondering if rough terrain at high speed would cause a problem.

as I said before I like to run a little fast, and the roads are pretty rough, I keep checking the bolts and welds very often and didn't have any problem

Nice job. I think I understand what you did. Too bad you took so long to post. Little details get lost when you have to just look back and remember.

I'm looking to convert my 98. I also read your updated posts on this thread bout checking and nothing loosening. Any suggestions on placement of r&p? Centering? We're there two mounting plates? The pics look double thick...? We're they welded to the cross member? Needing details to see how you got this to work.
