95 Ram Tranny issue
Hi, I'm a new member to the DF. I have a 95 Ram 1500 4x4 with 236k mi. I've owned since new. Today as I was entering traffic I managed to hit a pothole just as I was accelerating. I made it about 20 feet before the engine revved and I coasted to a stop. After the tow home I pulled the pan and didn't see any metal filings etc. I should note I've never had this transmission rebuilt and I've changed fluid regularly. I also use it to plow my driveway and a few others but not commercially. Before I pull it any thoughts as to what might have happened or things I should check? It's dead... Doesn't go into any gear. Could the torque converter have gone bad? Thanks much!
honestly your best bet with the high miles is to just do a rebuild either do it your self if you know how. or have a tranny shop do it
mine went out at 99k in my 01 ram 2500 i do alot of towing so i had mine rebuilt with a HD shift kit. it ran me about 2500 dollars

Thanks! U are probably right. I can pull it and take it in for rebuild. I was trying to determine if I should just end of life the truck or not. It's been a great truck but it is getting pretty rusty and how long do I keep it on life support. :-)
i was laying under my truck once doing something i can't remeber what i think i was check for a exhaust leak and i wondering what would happen if i did that when it was running i about ran my self over lol... not funny at the time but i look back and have to laugh

I do like it. It's a SB and can get into tight places. Just getting old like me. :-) I did jack it off the ground and played with the linkage but no go. I'll get my wife out this morning to attempt a couple other tests. Best make sure she's in a good mood.
No slipping but had occasionally had it slip out of overdrive. I'd agree that a pothole shouldn't have done this. I just replaced my front axel seals, track bar and put on new tires. Hadn't expected this. I think it's pretty clear. I just need to buck up and start pulling it out. I really appreciate the ideas and thoughts.
2500 bucks for a rebuild BigGreen? Holy smokes. I hope for that kind of money, they did a LOT of upgrades.
restoman: If you want to keep the truck, and never worry about your trans again, check out PATC Mega Viper. You DO have a lotta miles on the truck..... done anything with the plenum yet? (check out the stickied thread at the top of this forum.)
