Default 2000 RAM 1500 5.9L 4x4 not starting issue

I have had this truck for about 9 months, I love it... but the other night I was driving home, and it backfired, sputtered and stalled, and now it wont start for 2 days before this happened it had backfired a time or two throughout the day, I just thought I had gotten some bad gas in there... I had a guy hook his tester to it and he says the "main brain" is bad... does this sound right? it cranks but wont start, the coil tower to the distributor is getting spark from distributor to plugs no spark, I'd really hate to spend the money on a computer that i dont need... I also used to get a #2 cyl. misfire code when i first got the truck and the engine light was on, after I got an o2 sensor code and replaced the sensor the eng. light went away and has not come back... it has always sputtered when i really get on it (passing and what not) I just always assumed it was the misfire...

I'd start by checking the cap and rotor and the condition of the plugs.

Check and see what you are missing. Are you getting spark? Got fuel pressure? Power at the coil/injectors? Getting injector pulse?

I am getting spark from the coil to distributor, but not out of distributor. Got fuel pressure and i can hear pump clicking on when i turn key on. How do I check injector pulse?

I suggest you inspect the cap and rotor.

If you are losing spark, yeah, find out why first.
