I have a 99 Ram 1500,5.2,auto, 4x4. I believe it has a 46re trans. I found a wrecked 97 dakota with same motor, 4x4, auto. Do they have the same transmissions and are they compatable?

 

I'm thinking the transmission will bolt on to the motor and probably will work. But I'm wondering about the PCM in your Ram and how it will take to an older transmission, even if it's just two years.

Plus there could differences in connector's or differences in the transmission from '97 to '99.

 

Shouldn't be. They are both OBD-II-era vehicles/parts so I wouldn't think there would be interchangeability issues, but I could be wrong.

 

Doesnt the Dakota use the 44RE or is that just on the 6 shooters?

 

Just to chime in the Dakota tranny will work I did it on my 97 ram sport I yanked a tranny out of a 99 Dakota (non-sport) and it worked just fine
