actually jeeps were so light duty that they put car transmissions in them. from 99-04 they have the 3550, but before that it was more than 15 years since they've ever put a decent 5 speed in a jeep from the factory. when amc got a hold of them they started fading the heavy duty stuff out. and when chrysler owned them it was completely gone. mercedes wasn't any better. the ngs370 6 speed they put in is the same 6 speed that was in the cross fire and had the lowest torque rating of the 3 they put behind the 4.0.

Yea. The W55 in my car is widely disliked too. It can't take much more HP than stock before it pukes. A very common swap in the IS300 world is to throw an r154 in it's place, since they are extremely strong, and *******ly a direct swap.

Oh yea. I forgot. "Vertual" is considered profanity here.

you'll notice the snout is missing from the input shaft...

yeah here it is.

that's all that's left of it. 3 inches of it is just missing and what's left is paper thin...

so yeah... that's an issue. not sure what would really cause that... anyway i dropped it off to get rebuilt this morning.

any idea how a snout would break like that? it shouldn't see any kind of load, it just holds the throwout bearing... :dunno:

Those NV4500's are pretty light for a transmission built to go behind a diesel. I muscled mine around by myself too. What did the rebuild cost you?

Ouch. I paid $1275 round trip shipped (core return incl) from Tallahassee FL to Shreveport LA for a rebuilt unit with the cast iron tailhousing, and possibly (I'm not sure though) the other usual upgrades. Have you got the new one in yet?

i had it done locally by someone who was recommended highly. i know i paid more than i had to, but it was a master overhaul, and i did also get the iron tailshaft, and mine was done in a day and a half. no shipping or waiting.

i was planning on getting it in over last weekend, but got rained out. it's on the top of my priority list. i'll get it in by this weekend.

for now i'm driving my sister in law's little stock jeep. it's funny to see the looks on people's faces when they speed up to see who's driving the jeep with the pink license plate and hearts and they see my big bald *** behind the wheel. LMAO!

What, your Jeep doesn't have a pink license plate with hearts?
