Unhappy Fuel pump !!??

Hey guys i got a 98 ram 4x4 v8 5.9l magnum i was driving home today and all of a sudden my truck started coughing and farting. So i was thinking it was a fouled plug due to my plenum plate issue. I still need to install the aluminum one i have. But i replaced the plugs they were pretty bad but even after install it still lacked power and when fully on the gas it hesitates feels like it wants to go but it cant. It drives alright if your not on the gas to much but it revs up no problem when its parked . I also have noticed that my fuel gage has been bouncing around alot for a couple weeks first full then empty then quarter tank. And also while i was reving it in park the fuel pump got loud making a high pitched noise which i have never noticed before. so does anyone know what this could be im pretty sure its the fuel pump but i deffintley wanna make sure before i just go out and buy one. I found one thru lordco and they want 700$!!!!!! ... I also found one on ebay for 119$ so i think ill be getting it from there lol if its needed.. Thanks...Brian

How about checking the fuel pressure?

Read this thread to where they mention the fuel pressure.

Lordco price is $400, Napa is $330(mech price), Dealer was $450. I would not buy one off e bay. I have a used one you can buy. PM me if you would like it.

+1 on what Wh1t3Nukle said. How about checking fuel pressure?

If fuel pump is bad or going bad, it can be confirmed in 5 minutes by testing fuel pressure. Doesn't make sense to start swapping parts (expecialy expensive parts) to solve a problem that you have not poistively identified.

Test fuel pressure. Should be around 50 pounds. If that is good, your problem is elsewhere, but I would suggest starting here.

Which manufacturer is it? Airtex doesn't have a really good rep, Delco and Delphi units should last longer than the truck.
