Default Water moisture in carpet?

I noticed some white mold growing on my back floor carpet which is wet and there is moisture under my right front floor mat. Is this a bad heater core and if so what is a fair price to pay to have it replaced? 2000 Ram 318hp. Thanks

Does it smell like antifreeze? Mine is doing the same thing under the passenger side floor mat but I am sure it is from the A/C. Usually there is a water puddle under the right front side but there isn't on mine. The drain hose may be plugged. I haven't had time to check it out for sure but that might be what it is. If you don't smell antifreeze it is probably just your A/C draining into the cab.

I have the same issue going on now in my 98 Ram 1500 4x2 5.2L. I've had a white moldy area of carpet between the passenger seat and the door. This past weekend, I removed the trim holding the carpet down (mainly because I saw ants coming from under the carpet). Turns out there was lots of moisture, the padding was pretty wet and there were lots of ants under the carpet building a nest. Leaves me wondering if they were after the sweet antifreeze, just a guess. Funny thing is, I don't smell antifreeze in the truck. I did recently replace my waterpump and have been hearing a gurgling sound from the passenger dash area when I first start the truck. After reading a bit, I'm concerned that the heater core might be going bad. Strawboss10, did you ever find out what your problem was? Anyone? Thanks for the input.

I hate to tell yall this but that does sound like the heater core seal is bad and its not cheap to fix. I had mine go out about a year ago. I had it fixed before it started leakin too bad. I knew that is was going out when my windows started to fog up alot even with the defroster on and I smell what seemed like cat **** to me. I had to take it to a Dodge dealership to get it fixed because all of the mechanics in town wouldn't touch it because of the difficulty in repairing it. The costly part of it was that my whole dash up to the firewall had to be removed to get to the seal. The labor is what costed me so much. I hope its not the heater core seal thats your problem because if I remember right it costed me about $350-400 to get it fixed by a dealership. -Tyler

Sorry guys, it is the A/C, sounds funny but it is. Mine does it too. It comes from your A/C vent by the passenger door, and runs down the back and drips off the bottom of the dash.
How do I know, I kept thinking my door was leaking when it rained out. Then one day after I had it all dryed out, it was wet again and hadnt rained. I started watching and lloking after I had the air on for awhile and I found it dripping off the dash. I guess the problem is, the A/C in these things blow so cold, and the heat from the sun hits that vent through the window it causes alot of condensation and it runs down on the floor. One of these days run you air for along period of time(I know getting colder out now), but after you run it for awhile go check that vent out, it and the dash around it will be damp, and you should find water running out underneth you dash, ok not running but dripping.

Is this the same seal for the A/C core also? If so could be a combination of both. Being it only happens when you run the air not the heat.

Mine seems to be moist under the front drivers side floor mat but I do not smell anything. Think it could be the a/c as well.

Under the drivers floor mat I would not think A/C as all the box's are on the passenger side. But I guess if it is running through the vent it could go anywhere. Could just be from getting in your truck with wet feet.

Obviously the water can come from several places,
but you should also check the gasket around your
rear mounted center brakelight above the rear window.
I know that sounds a little crazy,
but there is a channel in the sheet metal of 1994-2001 '2nd Gen' Rams that allows water to leak from this brake light to the passenger side carpet. Use a thin coating of RTV to seal the old gasket, or buy the new design from the Dodge dealership.

Well still not sure where its comming from but it rained all night and now i have a good puddle on the floor mat under the parking brake peddle. I looked up under and where the metal is horizonal i can see it dripping. I wonder if its the windshield or a hole in the metal. I do know that it was leaking without me driving it and because of the location it doesnt look to be splash up or a hole in the fire wall.
Any ideas?

Joe
