Default XRF vs. MOOG Ball joints

Needing ball joints and been looking at XRF. I've seen that Moog is getting a bad rap for the boots tearing and the joint failing prematurely.

So, looking into prices I searched the XRF part numbers (K3134T, K7401) on Ebay. All I'm coming up with are the Moog joints. No XRF's.

Now the problem that I'm having is that I'm wondering if the XRF and MOOG joints are the same ones (made by the same company). Why would the part numbers be the same between them? Don't manufactures use their own part numbers? Or, are they starting to use the same ones to help "reduce" confusion?

I'd like to get the XRF joints, but this has me concerned now.

I installed XRF ball joints 2 years ago and LOVE THEM!!! They made my front suspension nice and firm. real quality product. If you do a search, I had a thread about it and a coupon there.

This one?

https://dodgeforum.com/forum/2nd-gen...r-opinion.html

Read it. Part of what makes me want them. It's just the same part number thing thats got me wondering.

I remember company's used to have their own numbers. Are they doing away with that?

Yeah, that's it. I really doubt it. I know that Moog is made by federal mogul. I'm almost positive XRF is there own company. I thinks the part number coincident is just for consumer convenience. I wouldn't worry about it.

Well I bought the cheapo DuraLast ball joints from AZ, only done the driver side so far, and you could instantly tell the difference, steering is already much firmer then before. Ball joints them self are pretty beefy but I have riveted on and not press in. They're holding up perfectly fine so far.

$50 each Limited Lifetime Warranty - the limited being no replacement in the event of miss-installation, commercial 4x4 use, etc...

I looked up the XRF ball joints when I was hunting, just a little too pricey for me at the moment.

Just my

i think im going to go with xrf's. 150 shipped to my door. $10 discount that j415 provided us with still works, so its ends up being 150 shipped for 2001 4x4 all 4 bj's.

For all 4 joints XRF is cheaper than Duracrap. Also seems to be made better.

Main thing that got me was the same part number thing. I researched a little last night and couldn't find a connection between the two except for the part number. Thats why I'm thinking its just universal.

I've always bought Moog and never had a problem, but I've also been reading about a lot of failures lately.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if they did come out of the same place though. Welcome to the age of China outsourcing where about everything is imported from China and a sticker is placed on it with the appropriate company logo.
I did some research for a local article I wrote about a year ago on how affordable winches have become lately and found that of thirteen brands I looked at, nine came from one of two factories in China. You'd also be amazed at how many different brands of shock absorbers are made in Tenneco factories in Asia and re-branded here. I've read posts where guys say how great this shock is and how terrible that one is and they are the same white-bodied, generic shock, made in the same factory with just a different sticker on it...
