Question Performance PCM

Its proably been asked before, I ve tried searching. I found one link and it asked all the questions I have but there were no answers.
I am thinking of putting in a mopar performance pcm into my truck. Its completly stock 94 318ci. It say about premium fuel and that its not reccomended for towing etc. Does anyone know how this will affect emissions, gas miles- good or bad. I don't do alot of towing but some times it will be heavy. So is it a good or bad idea as I would like more power and if possible improve the mpg some bit as gas is a real steal here at the moment at $7.55 a gallon.
Any ideas or links.
Thanks

I used to tow and run 87 gas in my truck with the Mopar/p pcm but as the motor has gotten more mods put on it, it no longer likes 87 or 89 it needs 91 or better. I would use 91+ gas if you are going to tow.

Yes it gave me better mileage and power and takes to mods very well. $7.55 a gallon! That makes me feel good we are @ $6 something for 91+

I would recommend a SCT Tuner from www.hemifevertuning.com. It comes with 3
"canned" tunes. They got Rams in Ireland? Who'd of thunk it!

Check their website - don't know if they ship to Ireland, but who knows....The SCT will eliminat ethe "death flash" that is programmed into these things. Don't know if the Mopar Perf does or not.

Sorry but he can't use an SCT tuner, 94-95 are obd1 and sct does not support those years. He can go with a Mopar Performance pcm or send his pcm out to B&G(I think it's called) to be reprogrammed.

So Merc are you saying that they run okay on 87 with the mopar pcm? And towing too?

Yes I am saying that, I had the performance pcm installed back in 96 and until summer 2010 I towed and used good 87 fuel without any problems. Using 87 does not give you the full potential of the pcm and if you are going to be @ wot more then just plain driving then 91 should be used. As of know with all the new mods put in/on the truck I know have to use 91 or better gas, but I still tow with it on occasions.

Yes it sucks to pay that much for fuel! Kamloops, BC has a gas war on right know $4.50 a gallon so we are going there on Tuesday to fill the truck and fill some jerry cans as well, it's a 2hr trip each way so I have to make it worth it. I can kiss $300 goodbye tomorrow.
