Don't necessarily believe it.
There are plenty of unscrupulous stations with rigged pumps showing more gallons than are actually pumped. I have had that experience three times that I'm aware of. Be especially wary of stations with prices much lower than other stations in the area.

An old school teacher of mine that I'm friends with on FB posted a picture of a gas pump, $2.92G, she lives in Virginia, not sure though if it was a local station or not.

On my trips to Va from Ga, I've noticed that the South Carolina Truck Stops have some of the cheapest gas around.

DON'T even think about stopping in North Carolina, it may just be some area's more then others, but HOLY CRAP is it high.

The Murphy USA station's (Wal-Mart gas station) offer .10 cents off a gallon when you use a walmart credit card or a walmart gift card. $3.05 with one of those cards.
