needed a new thermostat (low heat from heater) replaced with 160 thermostat.
everything is fine but on way to work CEL pops on.. And to top it off for some reason none of the readers @ the auto stores pick up any info at all, like they cannot link..
1. is 160 triggering a code?
2. why will readers not work?
1996 Dodge 1500 5.2 thanks leo
Why did you install a 160* stat? That stat will also cause a low heat situation.
I know the topic of thermastats have been covered a great deal lately, but jus wondering, when if ever is there a time to run a 160* thermostat?
i ran around in the summer with 160* thermostat but i don't have a computer to keep happy. so far the best mpg i have ever got was with that 160* thermostat in.
If I am understanding what I am reading a 160 isnt really a good idea to ever run with a computer controlled engine... I am far from an expert on that so maybe someone with more knowledge could chime in and correct me if I am wrong.
so turn key to accessory twice, then a third time, never heard of this... is it black magic voodoo. so turn and turn back to off turn and turn back to off and then turn again and code will appear?

Not sure why the reader didn't read the code, but you don't need a reader. Just turn the key to accessory twice, then a third time to see the code read out right on the odometer.
not on our 96 rams.. we dont have digital odometer displays

Yep. Just did it on my truck last weekend when the CEL came on. 0455 code, EVAP! GRRRRR.
But give it a try, you can test it even without a CEL.
Good to know. I still think if you have an android device, the $20 ELM327 readers on ebay work awsome to read and clear codes as well as see other real time data from the computer..
