Cool Transfer case Vacuum switch

Hi All,
I have to replace the vacuum switch on the transfer case in my 97' Ram 1500 5.9. I tried like crazy to unscrew it,but it won't budge. Does anyone know any tricks or have any ideas on how to get it out?........Thank you

Use a good penetrating oil. WD40 is not the best for that. PB Blaster, Liquid Wrench or something like that would be better.

Cool

Well, It was a great game plan. Cleaned all around it with a small wire brush, blew it all off with and then soaked it real good 4 or so times with PB Blaster with about 2 hrs in between sprays.I guess it was alot more rotted than I thought because once I got a good grip on it and tried to unscrew it, the whole thing came apart. It was really rotted. Now all thats in there is about 1/8"flat that the "o" ring is under and the part that is screwed in(just the bottom of it). It still wont budge. I even tried to unscrew it with the chisel, but wont move. Also been tapping on the top lightly with the hammer then try to turn with chisel. Still no luck. I imagine I could try to unscrew it with an easy-out because the ball part is no longer in there, BUT if I broke that easy-out in there, I would be screwed. Any ideas guys/gals ? Thank you

You need heat.

Heat would work great if I had it out of the truck. You can't even see it. Everything is done by feel. It seems to me that the threads havn't oxidized because the "o"ring in top would seal it and inside is always oil. My thought is that the top part on top of the "o" ring is oxidized to the transfer case along with the rust. They surely didn't do a very good job making this part from steel. If I cut off the part that is flat to the case,do you think an easy out would take out the threaded part? Interested in your thoughts on this. Thank you....Len

I would be real tempted to just bite the bullet, and drop the t-case, so you can see what you are doing, and have a LOT more room to work....... If you keep going, you may end up with even more of a mess, and end up dropping the case anyway......
