Default Update on tranny prob--the shop called :(

I can't remember all he said, but the gist is the converter is trash, and he thinks it may have contaminated my tranny. He thinks the fluid isn't flowing well which is part of the cause of the converter going. He wants to flush out the cooler to make sure there isn't any crap from the converter in there, and if that doesnt help then he will replace the cooler.

Estimates the cost to be 2200-2500 with a 2 year 24K mile warranty.

Umm, no thanks. I am sending it to another shop a little father away that says worst case scenario is 1500 bucks. My father used them before and likes them.

part of me wants to dump it craigslist as is and hope for $1000.

Well thats exactly what happened to mine and its getting rebuilt now....your quote is a rip off! I'm paying $1,550 for the rebuild with converter and Overdrive unit as well as check valve bypassed and hes also replacing a pitted gear he found in mine..

Used trans would be cheaper, but, keep in mind, its exactly that, a used trans. You have no clue how long it will last. If you go this route, be sure to still get rid of the check valve, and flush all the lines REALLY well.
how do u remove the check vavle?

That's the price I had as a worst case scenario in my head, 1500ish. Once the guy started telling me about the fluid not flowing correctly, and that he had to try and flush it, I asked about the check valve in the cooler line. He said no, thats not a problem and is fine. Whatever. I am still going to be optimistic about it, and hopefully the next shop will give me better news. I probably wont hear anything till late next week at the earliest. Shop 2 says they are swamped, but should be able to diagnose it and give me an estimate.

On a side note, the place that towed me home the other day does tranny swaps. They get a junkyard unit and slap it in. Comes with a 6 month warranty. I called them thinking I'd be looking at a a grand or so, but they wanted about 1800 for the job. lol The USED tranny was going to cost me 975 from them. He said about 8 hours labor to do the swap. I know this guys has bills to pay, but I don't want to pay for all of them, you know? geez.

A quick search came up with this. It's in the DIY section.
