Default 2000 Ram 5.2L Plugs

I just bought a 2000 Ram and am giving it a well deserved tune up but can't get 2 of the 4 plugs to come out on the passenger side. They seem to be turning but are not coming out. I thought one plug may have stripped threads but when the second one did the same thing I figured I must be overlooking something. The other two were no issue at all. I'm new to Dodge.... got rid of an F-150 for the Ram but have done my own tune ups for 20+ years and have not run into this problem. Any suggestions?

Are the nuts on the plugs stripped?

Either that or the head is stripped. I soaked mine in PB Blaster for a couple days before I did them. Doing that with the temp changes from cold to hot will really work it in and they all came out easy peasy.

Hopefully somebody with a way to get those suckers out will chime in soon.

Take the heat shields off, so you can actually get the socket down onto the plug.

Blow the shields out with compressed air first. Then soak with penetrating oil as suggested. Also , make sure the socket is new and not cracked. And get a Haynes manual and torque the new plugs to the proper spec, and you wont have a problem removing them next time.

Thanks for the advise... it seems that some of the heat shields are in the way. I got one plug out tonight and soaked the rest. The heat shields are a pain to get out!

grab the heat shields with a pair of locking pliers, twist and pull. Then get in there with a wire brush and get out the debris. Othewise you will not get soaking to the threads.

Also, I mix PB blaster with 25% synthetic motor oil when i soak. It thins the oil and allows it to penetrate. The oil will not dry out like PB blaster does.

Take it easy, if you break a spark plug you will need to remove the head.

For penetrating oil mix acetone and ATF in a 50/50 mix.

Forget PB, use the Kroil, Cyclo Breakaway(my fav) or what Charles said.
