Noisy timing gear set for 5.9 magnum
My timing cover gasket is bad and was dripping coolant but now it is leaking a lot more steadily, so I figured since I have to remove the cover anyway to change the gasket and all that and I know my chain has slack in it because of the rattle there at around 2200rpm I figured I would install a noisy timing gear set instead of a chain, It will sound cool and I wouldn't have to worry about replacing stretched out chains in the future. I am having a hard time finding one for the magnum v8's. does anyone have one or know where I can find one. I am hoping to get this done in the next week. Thanks!

Trouble is, the distance from cam to crank on these engines is LONG. Not like just about every other V-8 out there in the world...... I was not able to find a timing gear setup for these for under 500 bucks..... and even those were fun to find.
Just get a good double roller timing set. They don't stretch nearly as bad as the morse style chains, and will last you another 150,000 miles, at which point, it will be time to rebuild the motor anyway.

If you were to look at a mechanical drawing of the front of a 3.9, as if you were looking down the cam tunnel, and with measurements but without knowledge of how deep it is (six cylinders or eight), you wouldn't know it was a 3.9, a 5.2, or a 5.9... Unless there is something I'm unaware of.. if it bolts to the front of a 3.9, it will to the other two as well.. no? ... Timing chains, tensioners, covers, water pumps... All of it...
Am I wrong? Serious question... I don't think I am, so I'm asking..

drewactual, when I was building my 340, I bought a book by a Chrysler engineer about how to build a chyrsler stroker motor. He recommended putting a magnum timing chain tensioner from a v6 on the magnum v8 and the LA style engine v8's. When I sold one of my 340 blocks, I sold the book with it. wish I still had it. It had a complete list of part numbers that you could get from a dealer that would work with different engines. And he had listed what engines had what and what years so you could go to a junkyard and look for them.
