Default transmission temp sending unit

Hey guys, I just got an auto meter trans temp gauge for Christmas (not shur of the model). My question is, can I thread the sender into the test port without it hitting anything inside or do I need an adapter to space it out some? I plan on moving it into the pan. when its time to change the fluid and filter. The trucks a 94 5.2 with the 46rh. Any help is greatly appreciated thanks

Yes you can. Don't do it though. It'll give you inaccurate readings since you only get fluid in that port in certain gears.

+1 on that. It needs to read fluid that is constantly moving for accuracy. T into outflow temp line or pan for best results.

My auto meter trams temp thing came with one of those. You might want to put some sort of high pressure sealant in them because mine slightly leaks

If it comes with one thats great. If not, don't try make one. The tip of the sender will end up being too far away from the flow of fluid.

Actually you will

One year after I installed mine, the locking rings inside the unit desided to let go... I lost 8 quarts of fluid in a matter of minutes and was left stranded.

The rings were NOT loose, they would no longer tighten around the hard line no matter how tight I wrenched it.
