Cool 318 upgrade...in process

i wish to thank those who helped with the intake manifold.....thanks.
well the block, crank, and pistons(needing new bushings) is at the machine shop. they are going to measure crank (already .010 under) and bore out .040 over. still have not got my cam yet doing some homework, still have the XE268 in mind??? still concerned on P/V clearance, once i select cam , can order heads....so work to do, but want to thank those for the intake link. and if any other comments you would care to mention, go right ahead, may help in my homework....and if i can answer any questions on this build, ask away........inquiring minds want to know!
All the Mopar peeps have a safe and great New Year!

I think your pushing it with 040 on the block. The walls are thin to begin with. I don't know, I'm sure others will chime in.

do u have to go .040 over, usually on sbc we do .030 over because of the availability of pistons (and the price)

Thats a pretty big cam on a 318,. As far as .040 over goes, Ive heard that depending on how hard you are on the thing even .030 is alot. I wouldnt go to .040 over, .030 would be my max. It will be a nice running motor when you get it. I posted it a long time time ago, but you can find a 360 crank and turn it down to fit the 318 mains and run 6" sbc rods with .060 over 283 pistons on a .030 over bore and have a very solid running 347 stroker! Food for thought lol. Ive read about that combo on a bunch of sites and it seems to be a good set-up.

Cool Hears where we're at......

Thanks Mopar peeps for comments, my guide line for this build is from Hot Rod mag, had couple great stories on 318 builds (poor man, junk yard dog), not looking for that over 400 hp that they got but to have a fast street truck, but a good driving distance truck as well. Huh, best of both worlds?
as for the pistons, both articles used .040 over and 0 deck block, not going to do that, 318 is a good breathable engine and dont want to get much past the .477 lift. on the valves, since my pistons are Flat tops, no valve relief. as for valves size (1.90 to that 2.02 intake, 1.68 exhaust) found a shop that will build heads to cam and spring spec. the 80 lbs and 150lbs spring over the top may cuz some valve bounce, so dont need that, i am assuming at least 120 and then 250lbs or a bit more over the nose should cure that. valve train 1:5:1. lol have a chevy guy (driver & mechanic)helping me here.
yes the crank, no word back from the machine shop, but was doing a boil out and then mag block before any work done on the bore out.
hey i see there is a another mccart on this site.....nice last name, like mine.........well keep the rubber on the road and be safe out there this New Years Eve, and always have a DD with you. And as always "Have Nice Day".
