I guess I should've specified that it was the service rating I was referring to, i.e. GC, LB, or GC-LB.

I wouldn't use anything lower than grade 2 in u-joints, wheel bearings, or other highly loaded parts. The more buttery stuff just doesn't hold up under pressure, ends up pushed away from the places that need grease the most.
