Default Grease

Ok, quick question on greasing things.(front end, ujoints.. etc..)

How much grease to you pump in when you have a new part?

How much to you pump in when you do your regular greasing?

Is marine grease ok to use on everything?

Everything i bought to rebuild my front end has zerks, but my ujoints have these needle type fittings, where can i pick up a fitting?

How often should i grease? every 5000miles when i change my oil?

Can i grease to often?

Sorry for all the questions. I sually just pump a couple times on the gun and call it good when i grease everything each oil change... Wanna make sure im doing it right with the new stuff.

Until it's coming out.

Until clean grease comes out -- then wipe everything clean, of course.

Thanks! Feel a bit dumb asking such a basic question, but i rather not spend another 650 bucks or so o new everything for the front again(550 for suspension, plus new joints all around). Going to bit **** for my zerk fittings to keep them somewhat clean too. Hopefully i am not the only one that knows next to nothing about grease. Cept for cookin grease..

+1 for whats been suggested. What marine grease are you planing on using? Some types will be ok other's not so good.

Edit: I used to use Mercury marine special lube 101 for ball joints and tie rod ends, and Mercury marine U-Joint and Gimbal Bearing Lubricant for just what the name suggests.

I concur with everything unregistered stated. And I don't know enough about marine grease to give a difinitive answer, but I do not know if it will hold up under high temp.

And it is much better to ask that to guess sometimes. Too many people fail to even think about grease, henceforth manufacturers came up with sealed components - which typically do not last as long as properly greased components.

+1 gdstock, "Lubed for life" my ****. lol Thats why when I can replace a part that doesn't have a zerk fitting for one that does I do. Well, that was a horrible sentence.

Read the labels on the marine grease it will usually say what its good for and what it wont work for. Pretty much all my stuff is greased up with high temp marine grease cause it's always in my dads grease gun

I'd be worried about that kind of thing, too. Sticking to the appropriately NLGI rated grease is probably a good idea. I use Valvoline's General Purpose GM/Chrysler/European/Japanese Vehicles grease, the red stuff, for everything.
