Default 01 Ram Thumping Noise

2001 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4, has a thumping noise coming from the Right Front Pass Side floor board. Passenger can feel it and I can hear it. I had my front U joint replaced. Then had the front end alignment done. Talk with the tech about this noise he mention everything looked good. This happens going over bumps. I did my shocks 6 months ago, thought it was time for shocks. Didn't help either. Steering & Front end feels good, just the thumping noise. Any replys would help!

Check the lower shock bolts. If they aren't REALLY tight, they can make some odd noises.

Not the exhaust rattling around is it?

Level ground, in neutral, not running, grab the drive axle with both hands. Try to twist it like you want to turn it by hand, then try to go up & down, back & fourth against how it would spin. If there is any excessive play, you may need another axle or U joint.

HeyYou thanks it is the shock. Had them installed about six months ago. Should of done it myself. Funny tried tighting the bolt with a 21mm socket with a pipe on the ratchet and doesn't seem to tighten anymore. I might just replace the shock.

for a shock to go in 6 months...not good. There is something else there. Shocks don't go in 6 months.

Can hear & feel the noise coming from the shock while bounching the front bumper. It's the shock.

Shocks only go out in less than a year if they are monroe. Buy most anything but them & they will do okay, unless like CPTAFW163 said, something else. I would assume suspension bushings or ball joints at that point.

IMHO, Rough Country shocks are not that good either. I had the right front blow out in less than 1 year. Also every bushing in them (all 6) blew out in about 6 months.

remove the lower bolt and inspect for missing rubber bushing, bad threads, or wallered out bolt. if all seems ok try lubing the bolt and flag nut and retorque to about 110 pounds. i had a rear shock bolt wear out the center section after the bushing fell out.
