my tranny shop guy mentioned to me that it is a common failure... sensor goes wacky and starts messing with the line pressures... it might be worth it to send it into a shop for a good tuneup/service...

Mines back in the shop again. I've had it a week out of the last six or seven. Anyway, it was still doing this "chugging" thing, mostly uphill, part throttle. Dealer replaced plugs, wires, cap, rotor a week or two ago. I had replaced the coil right before it went in the shop. Service manager test drove it for like two days (hope he replaces the gas!), turns out it's a tranny issue. We'll see what happens. My rental of the week is an 05 Ram 1500, kind of a base model w/ extended cab. I've been driving it for a couple of days now and I've gotta say I think the second gen (ours) is better.

Dealer ended up replacing the Govenor pressure sensor, and another solenoid. Now it will shift, but is a little too late for what I think is right. It won't go into 3rd (Drive) until 40mph at 3200 rpm with normal take-off. Now, if I put my foot into it, it seems to shift better, but with gas prices high, I don't want to do that. Plus, in traffic, I don't even have that option.

I did have the shift points changed along with the speedo to match the larger tires, and this was done a few days ago, with the bad sensors. I'm wondering if it should be re-tweeked now that electrical parts have been changed.

The wife and I walked the dealership last night looking at new Rams, but just can't swing the payments right now.

The saga continues.

I hopeall is well with your slowly deceasing tranny. I have a 1995 Dakota 4X4. My transfer case is making strange clicking noises when idleing. But when it warms up, it seems to quiet down a little. Also, how the heck do I disconnect the steering shaft coupling so I can remove and replace the starter. My service manual says just punch out the pin, but it seems to be impossible to be removed. Can any body help me? Please email me at TPach58@***.net
My name is tom, and I'm a new member.

Yep, still a 'problem when hot' issue. It drove fine today. Gonna take it back on Monday.

Update (again): Tech says he believes that some tiny piece of something may be getting hung up in an internal manual valve. He asked that we drive it around for about 400 miles and see if the new fluid acts as a detergent and frees it, before he goes to the next level, and tears into the tranny.

I hope that it cures itself with a little time. We'll see in about a week.
