UPDATE:

Valve rattle seems to have phased itself out. Got the wires rerouted, no more ticking.

When I did the oil change I noticed it only filled up to about half way past the Add line. I checked it again today and it was dead even on Add. Bought 2qt's, figure it'll take about 1.

Before I start jumping to conclusion's I think I'll order a new PCV Valve and hose come Monday from the dealer. The old PCV hose broke, all we could get at the moment was plain jane rubber hose.

After the new PCV valve I'll recheck the oil situation.

Was the interior of the old hose quite oily? If so it's at least a co-conspirator if not the sole perpetrator of your oil consumption.

It *appeared* to be oil free, but we'll see. It was very brittle which is why it broke.

If it was dry then it's likely not the PCV valve at fault. But if it's not been replaced in a good long while it probably should be anyway. IIRC the Schedule A interval is 60,000 miles to check and/or replace. I just replace the things when the cosmic vibration tells me to or if I suspect it of being flaky because peace of mind is always a steal at five bucks a go.

PCV valve was the noise under my hood. I thought it was valve rattle also seeing I could hear it more when i took off the oil cap. BUT i moved my hand over the valve cover and BAM it was the PCV valve. annoying sound I must say but for a few bucks the rattle is gone. I just bought a breather and put it in seeing I dont have a stock air box on it anymore.

You WANT the PCV system to work as advertised. Having a breather on one side (that used to go the the air box) is fine, but, you NEED that valve and line hooked to the intake. It keeps the crankcase cleared of byproducts of combustion that make it past the rings, and draws a light vacuum to help ring seal.

I haven't re-checked the oil level yet but I had the hood open to check out a radiator leak (SH*T) and I noticed a bit of fresh oil around the PCV valve.

Ordering a new one from the dealer tomorrow.

Welp, ordered a new PCV Valve and hose today from the dealer, $7.50 for the valve and $5 for the hose.

I think by the time I get done with the truck the people in the parts department will know me by name. Good thing everything's been cheap so far...
