If it is just a film, then you are fome, probably PCV, if it is pooling in the rear, plenum, and if that is the case u just didn't tighten to specs

There are pictures of 2 plenum plates, unbroken gaskets, that show a very good idea of oil due to PCV source. Its in the 2nd Gen general discussion subforum.

Is this a fresh rebuild? If yes then your rings are still seating. A new motor will also use oil until it's broken in.

Just because there is oil in the intake does not mean the gasket is blown, it could be a few different things causing the oil. As far as I am concerned you can't tell if the gasket is blown until you remove the intake and inspect the plenum gasket. Unless there is a lake of oil in there.

Yes less then 1000 miles, fresh motor and it is oil. Film all over in the PCV port in the intake but also at the back of the intake also. Pooling fron the PCV?

probly. did you torque the bolts to the proper ft-lbs? if so, i would bet on the PCV. if not check the bolts to make sure they are at proper torque.

Alright silly question maybe but none the less i have to ask. I just did my plenum 4 days ago. Couldnt afford a new plate so i just used the old plate old plenum bolts and just cut the nipple off the bolts.

Anyway my question is I just read this on a plenum write up i was reading. First time i had read it on any plenum thread.
Is this legit? Are the gaskets suppose to face a specific way?
i admit how noobish that question may seem. But i only know what ive had to fix thus far and replacing the thermostat is as deep as i have ever had to go before this week.

If you used FelPro gaskets, it does not matter which way they go.

Did you use an aftermarket PCV Valve? Did you do anything about the plenum while the engine was disassembled?

The intake has the Hughes plenum repair. PCV is from dealer. I am going to start a new thread and not take up this one. Look for "1996 ram still running rough". Thanks.
