Oil pan gasket/rear main seal (oil leak)
Stuff like that will be a lot less scary next time. Good on ya!
i have acouple pics to post one or two, ill do it in a little bit its such a process email from the phone down load them to the computer put them on photo bucket than finally post them here...
anyways. I have a question: last night i put in a 5qrt jug of oil. then i checked the dip stick. It was right at the add line. so today at lunch i put another qrt of oil. so i think i should be just about right. now the oil gauge on my dash when im accelerating sits at about 80 however when i start to slow down it begins to drop slightly. than when i sit at at light or just idle it drops and sits at around 40. Ive driven vehicles that had bad sensors and when you brake it drops down and dings then when you take off it goes back up and the needle always bounces around; this really isnt like that. its actually very consistent. accelerating sits at 80 cruing along about 75 to 80 stopping or idle it goes to 40, it never drops below 40 though. whats going on here???

Our gauges aren't the most accurate to begin with, but, that behavior sounds pretty normal to me. As the revs increase, the pump is also turning faster, thus, higher pressure. As the engine warms, clearances open up, and the oil warms as well, and is easier to pump, so, pressure will drop off some on a warm engine vs. a cold engine, at the same RPM.
If your minimum pressure at idle, on a warm engine, is 40 pounds, just smile, and be happy.

Any ways I was checking the fluids and stuff today and heard what sounded like a vacuum leak near the front, low side of and on the driver's side of the engine. Happen to look down and noticed oil on the steering linkage. Crawled underneath and noticed oil on the front part of the oil pan and right behind the bottom pulley. I'm going to take it to a local shop to get fixed.
BTW I replaced the starter on it a few months ago and it was a PITA. The one bolt was easy but the other....
I didn't find any mystery parts in my pan. whew! BigBlue, you had me prepared though.
I didn't replace oil pump like i wanted. Could not get the strainer off without feeling like damaging it. Had got the new oil pump as a just in case item. Never had an issue prior. If I do....I know how to take care of it.... lol
@garam -- your leak sounds like the front seal on the timing cover at the crankshaft OR the seal between timing cover and oil pan.

I'm thinking about changing the oil again. I believe I waited to long on the previous oil change all though the oil didn't look to dirty.
