Default Can i replace the Combination Flasher relay with a Generic relay ?

Forgive me for posting this here, but no one ever looks at the Jeep section and i need this answered quickly.

The turn signals no longer work on my 98 Grand Cherokee, the emergency flashers do. I tried another relay in our other Jeep and i know for sure trying it that mine is bad.. The relay is a Combination relay which works both turn signals and flashers so there is only one relay for both.

The dealership wants like $40 with tax for a new relay but they sell relays at advance auto parts for $15. Its a Tridon EP27 Generic relay 2-6 lamps. I was told by a guy on another forum that this relay is for 1 or the other and wont work as a combination relay and said If i use it itll fry my wire harness. He never did go on explaining why he know this for a fact instead went on saying its your jeep what do i care..

So I dont trust that Jerk and im hoping maybe you guys would know more. Can i use the Tridon EP27 or should i bite my lip and buy the overpriced dealership one ?

Reading some of the reviews on Advances' website, folks have used these in their various year Jeeps, without incident. So, yes, you can plug the feller in there, and forgetaboutit.

Once comment said it was louder than the stock unit, but, that was the only complaint I saw.....

I also own a jeep and have heard the same coments about the wrong relay frying the harness. I don't know if there was any truth to it but this is not the first I have heard about it.

I've heard the same, if the contacts look gold, you should never replace with the "regular" relays. Something about amps and all that electric whizbangery.... Idk. Your call... but if there was even a doubt in my mind.... I'd suck it up and go with the $40 one...

Don't know about the color of the terminals having any meaning at all..... but, you DO have a point about KNOWING the 40 dollar feller just works, with no possible consequences at all....... How much is peace of mind worth?

How about comparing the wiring diageam on the proposed new relay AND the wiring diagram for the Jeep? That is where I would start.

I'd just buy the dealer one. Bite the bullet, get what you know is right, and enjoy the piece of mind.
