See this is the issue more and more about "swapping" to D60s. None are cheap, unless you come across a score b/c the seller does not know or some other unique situation.

While the D60s of any kind are still an upgrade (some are better than others), you still are getting used ones. At least that I've seen they almost always need to be rebuilt (internals and desired gears) followed by anything else needed to bolt up. Not to mention changing wheels b/c of bolt pattern, which typically would mean tires too. D60s are not being sold cheap, even if "ready" to go...they are expensive.

You're really looking at min. $2000 per axle. It's a big investment. I've seen some going outright for $500 and more, but they need lots of work done to them.

Lately, I'm thinking its more cost effective for the rear axle to be a 14 bolt...

Really, some actually came with a DL? Interesting tidbit.

I'll be going selectable ARB though.

14 bolt is much easier for setup though, adjustable and full float. No crush collar or sleeve thingy. I don't know it just seems more serviceable and tons of support.

It does have alot more support for it, I just cant talk myself into spending more money though lol. It would be impossible to get whats into my axles out, hell it'd be hard to get half out. So ya'll dont think a fully trussed 44 with HD balljoints and chromolies would hold to light wheeling?

i think it all depends on your definition of "light wheeling" and how big your tires are compared to the power you are putting to them.

get a new AAM 9.25 front outta a 03+ 3/4 ram, no CAD bs their high pinion and will almost bolt right in and their 32 spline inner and 33 spline outter

or get a 2002 Dodge dana 60 they didnt have cad

if you go with a CAD 60 get a 99+ they were like the AAM and were 32 spline inner and 33 outter

pre 99 60s were 30 inner and 32 outter

but honestly if it were me id go with a AAM or go big with a BJ or king pin 60 with coil overs

Light wheeling to me is slight trails that don't really need 4wd alot and some mud here and there. I'll be running 37's with a slighty beefed up 360.

I hear ya loud and clear. Fosho if you did all that to the d44, you'd be golden (imo) for light wheeling. tbh, that is what I'm heavily considering doing. I kinda want to optimize my ORE d44 (har har) and see how well it does.

^These are all good points to offer, but not sure whom you're suggesting to at all. All of those, while "bolt in" still take quite a bit of effort to get integrated. spline counts, gearing, being the biggies.... I addressed this "cost" a few posts above. Can you cite a direct example of a streamlined swap? In no way am I saying to doubt you as I've have NOT dove too deep into all the possible swap options.

I think you'd be good with the beefing up you mentioned. Jeeps run this all the time, granted they shorten the axle length and weigh less. However, that doesn't stop them from running it harder.....due to some compensation thingy.
