i was refering to 5k to build a set of dana 70's and dana 60's....part of the reason i want to keep my 44 is cause i got lockers front and rear on my truck now. I worded that wrong. Thanks for the article it gave me ideas to extend the life of these 1/2 ton axles till i save up for the swap...I still have a motor i have to put in lol gotta save as much money as possible for now.
I understood that. If you have access to welder and sheet metal and cutting, etc. it would be real cheap to gusset the d44 at the Cs. It really would beef it up more. In addition, you could also create your own axle sleeves. The cost then is just the materials, which I'd just venture out to be no more than $300.

Beefing up the axle like above would make it more attractive by itself. The locker, if you treat it good, keep the paperwork, etc. will also be more attractive..maybe.

maybe you already have in mind what d60s you are targeting, but i'll toss this still just in case.
If you get a dodge d60, then be prepared to swap out the knuckles for fords to do the spindles. No sense in keeping unit wheel hub assembly. This way everything else is a bolt up, even the calipers.

Otherwise, go for Ford HP60.
Some tidbits is all dude.
thanks for that i am just starting my research on what axles to go with...I am a fan of easy swap and least money....but i think we all are. thanks for the heads up its little peices of knowledge like this that will save me a headache later.
I'm just going the gusset the 44 add lockout hubs chromoloy shafts and joints. 1300 for the lot. I just can't spend the money for new axles then regear and all that.
For that kind of money, you could do the axles, provided you could find a good deal on some D60's..... and sell your little ones to offset some of the cost.
Syneregysuspension.com sells a beefy set of balljoints and I'm gonna truss the front end and gusset the c' s up with 2.5"x2.5" 1/4" wall tubing. I think it'll hold up for how I drive lol.
