Default Speedometer Trouble and Minor Probs

Due to the previous owner of my Ram not giving it alot of TLC, alot of the things have minor probs These include a bi-polar gas gauge, a dysfunctional speedometer, prolonged starting, shot water pump bearings (fixed), and a few other things. Primarily, I want to know how to fix the speedometer since I can some what read the gas gauge. The speedometer used to work then it got to where it would only work when it got to a certain speed/gear. Now it has to get all the way up to 55 mph to start working. Any DIY instructions or diagnostics on this or prolonged starting would be awesome.

Replace the rear wheel speed sensor in the rear diff. (might also be called rear abs sensor, or some such silliness....) Should solve both problems.

So you're saying its probably a bad sensor (or 2) instead of the speedometer itself? btw, I also have the BRAKE light on 24/7 but theres nothing wrong with the brakes as far as i can tell

Yep. Just that sensor should solve all three problems. The speedo gets its signal from that sensor..... speedo not working is a pretty sure sign the sensor is toast. ABS gets annoyed when it doesn't get a speed reading, when it thinks it should, and turns on the lite. Brake lite comes on, because the abs lite is on, and it doesn't wanna feel left out......

Thanks. From what I've found replacing the sensor is fairly cheap, but the new question is is it gonna be a pain in the but for me to replace myself?

Shouldn't be. I think its one or two bolts, and an electrical connector. Be careful removing it, so you don't bust it off in the pig, and you will be fine. (it just kinda wiggles out.) You should be able to do this in about 15 minutes in your driveway, with a wrench or two. Don't even need a jack.
