I rather have a spool than a locker.. I KNOW how a spool is going to react on ice and snow, a locker can on lokc and lock on you causing you to slide around worse lol. I will look around though..
Driven with detroits front and rear before on my old jeep, ended up putting a spool in sinbce that is predictable. The detroit would lock and unlock often and send the jeep sideways(yes that was a SWB jeep, and i have a pick up). Plus a spool is less moving parts.. Cheaper as well.
I have a DL in both my diffs and have never had an lock unlock situation like you describe. On dry pavment it unlocks only when turning, in/on snow/ice/mud/sand it never unlocks. A DL is not for everyone.
Are you locking it to 4 wheel or drag race?
If your looking to 4wheel/DD then i would consider a ARB in the front axle. You will gain alot more by locking the front than the rear.
I'd rather have a locker in the rear myself. Reason being if you got one in the front and not the rear you gotta have it in 4 wheel drive to get any use out of it right?
Lock the rear and you may be able to go further into places that your LSD won't get you, cutting the need to lock in 4 wheel drive...
I would like to do this to my truck, instead of having 1 wheel drive with the open diff. What do you think of welding the rear end. It is a daily driver and I don't have a lot of cash right now

Welding the rear on your DD is a bad plan. Accelerated tire wear, interesting (to say the least) handling on slick surfaces. (wet pavement for instance) Stress on the assorted parts that won't be able to turn when they REALLY want to.....

Bad idea! I want a rear locker too, holding out for a Detroit.
