Under dash led lighting
I think that is more a product of the way you are testing it....... Should be three wires going to the switch. One has constant 12v (yellow wire). The other (black with light blue trace) runs off someplace else, to clue in some other device that the door is open. (I am assuming the timer for the ignition switch light. This one may have constant 12v as well.....) When the door opens, the switch closes, and provides ground path for those wires. Black wire with orange trace goes to ground.
+1. Power goes from fuse to light then switch. Switch grounds the circuit to complete it and turn the light on.
Ok soo I got the drivers side done tonight. No pic yet though. there are 3 wires as you say. I don't understand how its all working though. Is the door switch some kind of relay? Nothing has power or is grounded until the yellow and black/orange wire are connected.
Nope, door switch is just a switch. if you unplug the connector from it, ground the black probe of your meter somewhere, (or, even stick it into the pin with the black/orange wire) and stick the red probe into either of the other two pins, you should see battery voltage there. No current flows until the switch closes. (when the door opens...

Im thinking of doing the same thing but I want to light up the ground under my door.
but im still not sure if im gonna install the lights under the door or under the door sill.
I found some cool flexible waterproof l.e.d. Light strips at autozone.

That is where I got mine. I don't know how well it would hold up on the outside of the truck. The lights would be fine but I think any kind of sticky tape or w.e. will come off pretty quick.
Get the double sided tape that is made for body moulding. Clean the mounting surface very well, and wipe down with something such as lacquer thinner to remove any residue. It should hold it.
On my truck I have the recon ''big rig'' lights mounted on the lip of my rocker panels. And all I got holding them on is 3m double sided tape. I mean, shoot, hood scoops are held on by double sided tape! It works trust me
