Default Under dash led lighting

Ok so I picked up some 12" leds to put under my dash. I searched and didn't come up with anything that didn't involve a switch. I want them to come on when I open the doors only. Has anyone done this? Where is the best location to slice into? Thanks

Since they are LEDs they won't draw much power, should be able to tap into the dome light, that way they will work with the door open and with the dome light switch on the dash. I want to do this to my truck too, I've seen it done in a few cars and it makes an amazing difference. Good luck with it and post some pics when you are done.

Ya that's what I was thinking about doing. Do you know if it gets power when the door is opened? Or only when you turn the switch on

Door switch should just be a ground. Provide power to your lights from elsewhere, use the drivers side door switch to provide ground path. (not sure if that will also kick on the lights when the passenger door is open, I don't think it will.)

the door switch has constant power until the door is OPEN, then power is lost.

Run a wire up to the dome light, so when the dome light is on your leds are on.

I think that is more a product of the way you are testing it....... Should be three wires going to the switch. One has constant 12v (yellow wire). The other (black with light blue trace) runs off someplace else, to clue in some other device that the door is open. (I am assuming the timer for the ignition switch light. This one may have constant 12v as well.....) When the door opens, the switch closes, and provides ground path for those wires. Black wire with orange trace goes to ground.
