Default Need help

Today I was driving to school and I passed someone and got to a red light when the light turned green I went and my oil pressure gauge drop to 0. I pulled over and checked my oil and it was fine so I started my truck and my oil pressure gauge went back to normal so I started driving and soon after my guage went back to 0 and my engine started making a clanking sound and it started shaking. Does anyone have a clue what this is? I drive an 01 dodge ram 1500

^^^ what he said. It sucks, but If it's making those noises it's been run with insufficient oil pressure for too long.

Bad as it sounds. Stick a fork in it, it's done.

its not totally done yet...you could do a low budget rebuild now, if you keep running it and throw a rod or something, then you'll be looking for a new motor

i'd drop the oil pan and have a look. could be a sludged up oil pump screen. especially if it swings back and forth between normal - 0 - normal - 0.

if no obvious rod, bearing, or piston problems - replace oil pump with melling high volume pump, clean the screen and tube, and see if that helps. don't forget to prime the pump.
