the yokes are at the hubs. one on the stub shaft and one on the inner axle. the u-joint joins them together. when this joint fails, and the broken pieces turn into rotating hammers - the continued spin of the inner axle can beat the hell out of the surrounding area.

it'll be interesting to know what happened on the inside. post a parts list of pic later if you find out.

it looks like you're warranty is a good investment, as your repair list contains some very expensive repairs.

I changed the diff fluid and gasket at 48K miles with valvoline synthetic (80W) and some lucas stabilizer.

I am having the work done with my extended warranty, so it is not really a big deal. But I am wondering if front diffs just grenade themselves when you are NOT crawling rocks. I had noticed the 4x4 being kinda clunky for a while, but I hardly used 4x4, so I never thought much of it.
I wonder if your CAD was not fully operational causing the connect ring to not be fully seated on the axles.

Hopefully you can encourage the shop to take photos of the carnage. This is interesting.

Were you turning? Had to be as that's the usual situation to really pop the fricken ujoint. Interesting to say the least and look forward to the update.

I don't know exactly when the u joint popped. I was making sure that I was driving on snow ice or slush and if things cleared up, I was going to slap it out of 4x4. I know the CAD is fine, because the 4x4 light comes on and off and the engage disengage is relatively fast (much better than my 1996).

When My warranties run out, I will be getting the manual cable. But I still have 45K miles and another 5 years on the warranty. I got the warranty at the last possible year (truck at/under 10 years old) and right after the extended chrysler warranty ran out. Since the mileage was less than 60K, I was able to get the best warranty (It covers all parts that the factory warranty covered). When this warranty runs out, I can get another but it is limited to certain components.

OK, it was the left hub, left axle and left Ujoint that was replaced. So you guys are probably correct on the "continue to drive after the U-joint pops" and "The axle turns into a spinning hammer" part.

It worked out fine, but can someone do some "interpretation" on the estimate:
What does "Used reconditioned" and "used other" mean? Because I am thinking that "used other" means junkyard part.

The axle was $310 and the hub was $275. Does that seem right for used parts?

Used reconditioned would hint to it being a core that was resurfaced to factory specs. Most parts you buy from auto zone are reconditioned!

Not sure what used other would be...

Sucks it has given you so much issue. My dad bought my truck new in 2000 (sold to me 2 years ago when he bought an 09 2500), also a Mexico truck and at 140k no major repairs thus far. Just some bad luck i suppose.

Prices seem pretty high for used parts....... Considering you can get new ones for less.

I'm kinda in agreement. I haven't looked in awhile, but I wonder what upgraded axles would have cost..... lol you know, b/c OP keeps hittin' it.

The prices are high because that's list price. And that's what they put on the invoice.
