Default compression test

o.k so im bundling up in some winter clothes to face the snowy outside cold and going to do a compression test.
i know i have to take all 8 spark plugs out, however i have a question.
if i take all the spark plugs out, after removing the spark plug can i put the wire back in the well? that way as i get to each cylinder i can take the wire out of the well do the test than put the wire back in the well and move on to the next one? this way i dont get any wires mixed up. Or should i just label all the wires pull all the spark plugs and leavin the wires hanging, than when i put it back together i can just put the wires back according to how i numbered them???

Label the sparkplug leads, remove all eight sparkplugs, disconnect the ign coil 12volt wires, and remove the fuel pump relay in the pdb. Set the throttle at wfo. Do your test.

no its the 2 pronged connector that connects to your ignition coil...if you were to use your method the compression from each cylinder would just blow the wire out

i kinda figured that would happen with the blowing of the wires, also i just went and looked at the truck and seen the connector that goes to the bottom of the ignition coil. so i will remove that thank you

You really want the motor to be at least warm when you do the test. Not too warm in Hartford right now is it.

If it's 25 degrees down there like it is here right now in NH, I wouldn't bother doing a comp test. The motor is supposed to hot/warm when you do the test.

After reading that i figured you said it for a reason and my wife was complaining bout needing to go to the store. so we went to walmart. I picked up a battery while i was there. when i got home i put the new battery in. i also re did the ground wire. it didnt look too solid of a connection, so i put a new terminal on it and fastened the screw and terminal back to the truck. i had a group 25 battery in there. (thats what the Po had in it when he sold it to me) ive read some where were supposed to have a group 27. so thats what i put. it has 880 CCA. if im not mistaken our trucks are at around 750.
the trucks pause to start was shortened ALOT. yet through the sound of the start i believe there are other things to do to make it stronger and more reliable. However over all its made a difference. (i know this has nothing to do with compression)
so after putting the battery in i puked all over the place... so back in bed am I. the highest degree we got to today was like 32f so over all guess its good i didnt do it.
