Well my buddy has a 92 light duty 3/4 ton Chevy that has a nv3500. I wasn't sure if the dodge nv3500 was different from the chevy

No, it doesn't. There are plenty of Chevy NV3500s out there to use.

I'd much sooner do an LSx swap over that old junk. 6.0s are pretty good motors.

Yeah I agree, I'd stick with a a 5.2 or 5.9 unless your wanting to do a LS. The Iron block 5.3 ls engines from GM trucks are cheap.

Well I can get a 350 and nv3500 with 50k on them for 550 bucks from my dads friend. Would the spline output be the same for the tcase?

How much would a 6.0 run me?

Input shafts were different between dodge and chevy. So, can't use dodge trans without modification, I am unable to come up with output shaft specs for the various models.....

Another question I have is, will it pass inspection with a Holley efi system or something of the like?

And would I have check engine light on all the time?

Depends on how you do it, and what inspections/emissions testing is like where you live. If done right, the CEL will work the way it is supposed to, and you should pass the sniffer test...... (if you leave the cat on there...... and maybe even without it.) Visual inspection might be a problem though.... some states get REALLY picky about what you can, and cannot do to your vehicle.
