The oil crisis 440's are still tire melters man. All them mopar big blocks are torque monsters. Plus you are not going to be able to afford pre '72 iron. It ain't cheap. The motorhomes had the best internals, and are cheap and plentiful, so thats the way i would go.

Not much. You will be impressed with it out of the box (motorhome...) as long as it still runs well.

my 440 was from a motor home, but I found out it originally was from a car when I pulled it and checked the numbers, Score!!

I love your idea of no computer, what about a stroked LA engine? We have a lot of older dodge's up here that I could choose from. That's one good thing about living where rust thrive's, body's and frame's rust out before engines blow up. I can get a running driving but rusty 4x4 dodge for under 1200

Money.

Basically, just do a complete rebuild. Bump the compression, better cam, better intake, better carb.. or, a stand-alone EFI system.....

You know, if you seen in the other thread about the seat, Ill carry this conversation on here.

Like 2x has said I am coming down for his truck in a couple weeks, I know where a 440/4spd/AWD t-case is out of like a 78 or so Dodge that I could bring down on the trailer if you are interested.
