Excellent point! See if you can get a P/N off the alternator and see if you can find out what you really have on there.

That may be for towing, plowing and such if you have the towing package... Its your call but if its changing ok and not dipping down when things are running it should be ok...my vette has power everything and heated mirrors and it keeps up fine...I seriously doubt its effecting your transmission performance...

Keep in mind too I dont believe it puts out the max amps its rated at unless the load calls for it.(otherwise it would be sucking more mpg with a higher load on the serp belt)..so the one you have may be the 136 amp one.... Hopefully someone else will chime in and explain better

Well the battery died one night after i left the headlights on for 1 hr. So i figured it was the battery but a friend of mine was told that there was some reports of the alt causing trans problems. I dont think that is the case in mine now. But would still like to know what is a "good" amp out under load. Didn't get the plug off the trans today. I tried for alittle outside my house but the rain sucked here. Anyone know how the 8 pin plug by the shift linkage comes off?

I read an article about alternator being the cause of transmission problems on google. They said it only effects them on newer cars that comes down to what they consider newer cars though.

with the truck in park and headlights on your still not gonna be drawing close to 75 amps... thats likely the base output level your alternator puts out...
75 amps is more than enough to ensure the truck is running correctly....if it wasnt you would get a battery light as well as other issues...
the issues you report sound like the VERY common one I mentioned earlier or and improperly adjusted tv cable...

ok looked for the 8 pin plug but only could see a smaller one right above the trans pan. The thing that i was wondering was the 8 pin plug for the other trans for the 98 ? or is it the same for my 46re?

Should be a bit further back on the trans. (maybe four inches or so.....) Goes straight down into the connector. I think you just squeeze it to get it to release.... not sure on that.
