So I just bought a HID kit made by NOTTE SE it is a 9004 dual beam. First off the high beam indicator is always on. Then if you cycle the high/low beam switch the high beam indicator gets dim and I have no high beam. Now I thought being a dual beam bulb that meant high and low beam or am I wrong. If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated.

 

I had to disable the drl module and I wired the HID's with two relays. Very technical, required cutting and splicing and even then the ground from vehicle side wasn't strong enough to flick the relay, ended up wiring another relay to trigger with park lamps. Another suggestion, I believe someone makes a hit to interface these to this type of truck.

 

I can tell you the HID kit I bought for my dads f150 was wired backwards... high beams were off when switch was on...(I think they just guess in china because the aftermarket non hid headlights I bought behaved like your HID kit because it was wired for 9007 sport bulbs and marketed as regular ram headlights... They are still wiring them wrong to this day dispite many complaints.. and HID's dont have high/low beams..they accomplish the effect by physically moving the bulb in and out in the housing when you switch them...

 

Ok this weekend ill have to dig into the wiring and find out where the problem is. But my truck dosen't have DRL's and I already have one relay in the wiring harness so ill have to see if i need another.

 

Ok well today i got off early and decided to mess with the HID's. First I took the light plug apart and rerouted the wires in the plug. Now i have high and low on my passenger side. But when i did the same to the driver side my diode got real hot and i burnt the fuse for my driver side headlight. So do i need a second relay to help handle the load?

 

Recheck wiring on passenger side.

There is an interface module u can purchase to make the install work correctly. or, unplug the drl module and attempt to wire that way.

 

no DRL in 98-01 ram 1500, going to try some hard wiring and some resisters. I'll let you know

 

The way the plug come wired is theres a blue wire (hot) for the low beam, then two ground wires (one each for high and low beams) then the red (hot) wire for the high beam. What I did was cut the red wire about an inch from the plug. Take that red wire thats still to the light and splice it into the blue wire. Once you do that, cut the ground (black obviously) to the high beam off right at the plug, MAKE SURE ITS THE ONE TO THE HIGH BEAM, or youre screwed cuz it will be way too short to fix. Then connect that ground wire that ya just cut to the red wire in the plug. Thats it! sorry if I made it sound complicated but its actually a rather easy fix.This will take care of your problem
