Default What is this?

I was taking pictures of my truck the other day, and I realized I had been forgetting to ask what this part on the motor was for. If anyone could tell me what it is, what is inside it, and if it is supposed to be connected to something I would appreciate it.

I took zoomed out pictures first so you could see where it was located on the motor. The part in question is in the last picture.

Thank you!

That's part of your PCV system. Your air hat isn't stock. There is supposed to be a hose from that to your air hat. Just go get a breather valve thingy(proper terminology). Do you have an air filter inside that air hat?

the reast of your air filter setup is missing as well as the hose that connects the breather to the air filter intake.. I really hope your not driving it around like that with no air filter?

Right now the truck is just sitting. I work on it a little bit at a time when I have the time and money. This is a learning truck for me. There are issues with this truck. It has over 230K miles. Nothing on it has been replaced except for the motor and the brakes. The new motor has about 100k miles on it.

No, there is no filter on the truck. That is going to be my next purchase.
