Default 1996 Ram fuel probs

I just bought a 96 ram 1500 that starves itself of fuel when I stop. i have to give it a little gas when the brake is applied at any light or sign. I will run fine when brought up to speed and does not hesitate. I think its the pump but I am not 100% sure. I am hoping someone out there has had this problem. If you need any more info I can tell you I just can say more then that.

My truck did this and I needed a new MAP sensor....That is what the shop told me at least, but it did stop.

Start with the free stuff. Clean the throttle body, paying special attention to the IAC well, and passages. That might be all you need to do. (leave battery disconnected while cleaning please.)

Ill start with the free stuff because that is what Im looking for right now. Since I have a small amount of work hours to pay for anything. The IAC is at the base of the TB on the right side if looking straight at it? Sorry I work on classics and dont work on a lot of new rigs.

On my 98 360 it's at the rear of the throttle body. Sorry I'm not sure if your year is the same. If it is at the back it's easier to just remove the throttle body. Much easier to clean and all the crap isn't running into your plenum. I'd pick up a new TB gasket just in case it gets torn. Don't move the pintle after you take it out. There's a few write ups on here somewhere but I'm not good at finding them.

If you CEL is on, is there any way you can get it to a place that can read the codes for you? Most parts places will read you them for free, like autozone, advanced auto, and maybe even a garage if you ask nicely or know them well enough!

I had the exact same problem due to the fact that my air intake housing was not completely sealed and fouled my MAP sensor. I now have to pull the Intake Manifold and clean it and replace the plenum as well, while I have it all apart.

Good Luck!
